A weekend dedicated to family-friendly fun in Harpur Square. The Council’s Family Fun Day offers games, activities, and entertainment for kids of all ages. Keep your ears open for live music, with bands and choirs throughout the weekend, bringing the Christmas cheer to life.

Saturday 21 December – Workshop Tent

11am – 11.45am Christmas Decorations with Marta Plizga
Children will have the opportunity to decorate ready-made templates of Christmas ornaments. They will have a range of colourful scraps and decorative materials to create their own ornaments, which can be taken home and hung on the Christmas tree.

12pm – 12.45pm Snowman Drawing with Marta Plizga
Children will have a black paper to create their own snowman using white cotton wool and decorative materials. First, they need to draw their snowman, then cut it out and decorate it using the art materials provided.

1pm – 2pm Art School – Painting a Christmas Shopper Bag
Participants are given a white shopper bag. The artist provides participants with prepared sketches on a Christmas theme. Participants draw the outline of the drawing on the bag. And then fill the drawing with professional paint. At the end of the master class, each participant takes home their new bag.

2pm – 3pm Art School – Christmas Card
For each participant a personal place is prepared at an individual easel. Participants choose a sketch of a drawing on a Christmas theme. And draw standing at the easel on a large sheet of cardboard, A3 format. At the end of the master class, each participant takes home a finished Christmas card.

11am – 11.30am Laughter Yoga with Cheryl Green
Laughter exercises such as making a laughter milkshake and unpacking a laughter present. Have you heard an elephant laugh? Come along to open your imagination and walk away full of festive joy.

11.45pm – 12.15pm Frosty Potions Session with Little Science Lab
Add some sparkle to an icy potion and watch the magic happen… A cool opportunity to learn about solids, liquids and gases!

12.30pm – 1pm Frosty Potions Session with Little Science Lab

1.30pm – 2.15pm Fire Tiles with Little Science Lab
Make a beautiful Christmas tile for yourself or as a gift, decorated with alcohol inks and set on fire for an extra wow factor!

1pm – 2pm Create a Festive Crown with Kaye Mahoney (aka Kaye Leidoskope)
These upcycled cardboard crowns are a delightful addition to any kid’s dressing up box for the Christmas holidays. Made using cardboard and recycled Christmas cards and decorations. Age suggestions 3 or 4 years and up.

11.45am – 1.15pm Dance & Decorate: Crafting Movements with Desiree Bashi
This interactive session brings together dance creativity with the joy of crafting, inviting participants to design their portraits, which will be used in a short dance, adding a personal touch to the performance. After the session, participants can take home their creations.

1.30pm – 3pm Words of the World: Crafting a Multilingual Notebook of Inspiration with Desiree Bashi
Celebrate the power of language and art in this multicultural crafting session. Participants will design a personal notebook filled with words of peace, love, and encouragement written in various languages and alphabets. The notebook
can be taken home and used for their New Year’s resolutions, aspirations, or reflections. This session offers a unique opportunity to appreciate diverse languages and cultures while creating a keepsake that inspires positivity and self-expression throughout the year.
