Developing Basic Skills

English and Maths skills

Bedford College Group offer Free basic maths and English skills qualifications starting with functional Maths and English skills and building to GCSEs.

Bedfordshire Employment and Skills Academy can help if you find maths a bit scary. As part of the Government’s Adult Numeracy programme known as Multiply, Bedford Borough Council has received funding to offer courses that will help you to improve your skills and confidence with maths.

English Language and ESOL

If English is not your first language, you can attend an English for Speakers of Other Languages [ESOL] workshop.

At the workshop, you will be supported to complete an initial assessment of your current English level, and take part in some taster activities to give you an idea of what the courses will cover. You can then enrol onto a course.

There are accredited courses available to improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. These skills are essential for using English in everyday life, education, and employment.
