Food Banks
There are a number of local places you can go to find food if you are struggling.
Bedford Food Bank don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why they provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis. You can find more information about where and when they are open on their website.
IMPAKT’s Food Larder operates every Thursday and Friday 10am – 1pm at Hawes Court in Bedford (the alleyway to the right of West 4 Café on Harpur Street). The Larder is free to use and you don’t need a referral or to speak to anyone beforehand. IMPAKT operate on a no criteria, no questions asked basis. Simply arrive with your shopping bags and choose from a range of foods that suit your dietary requirements and household size. Please note this service is for Bedford Borough residents only.
- If you’d like to get involved and support the Larder, why not hold a food collection at your place of work, school or group? IMPAKT have food crates with signage that you can display to your customers and colleagues to gather food donations, helping them to feed more people in Bedford who need it most. It’s a great way to get your team involved and make an IMPAKT in your local community!
- To find out more and have an informal chat with Impakt Housing & Support , please email fundraising@impakt.org.uk.
Bedford’s Ethnic Food Bank is a referral only, free of cost ethnic food parcels for the people of Bedford in financial crisis. They support all the ethnic minority groups such as Asian, African, Caribbean, Eastern European and Middle Eastern communities. To access support you need a referral from a recognised community organisation/school/GP surgery or Bedford Borough Council, these organisations can find out more by calling 07448 221034 or emailing conntact_us@ethnicfoodbank.org.
